From Behind the Lens: A Baseball Family's Journey to the Big Leagues (2026)

Bold opening hook: A camera in hand, big dreams, and a family that redefines what success looks like. And this is the part most people miss: the real story isn’t just about fame or fame-adjacent moments—it's about how perseverance, roots, and networking can shape a path you never saw coming.

Welcome back to the second edition of From Behind the Lens. If you missed the first installment, here’s a quick summary: I’m a college senior who almost always has a camera at hand, and I spend my afternoons nudging the Louisville baseball team to join TikTok trends—without making it feel like a nerve-wracking request.

People often ask how I found my way into the sports world, and the truth is far from ordinary.

I come from a baseball family. And when I say “baseball family,” I’m not referring to a few family outings to casual MLB games. There’s nothing particularly relaxing about watching your oldest brother close for the New York Yankees during his first playoff run. Just ask my dad.

Most people know them as David Bednar, two-time All-Star and current closer for the New York Yankees, and Will Bednar, College World Series MVP and a first-round pick for the San Francisco Giants. To me, they’re the two who would never let me win a backyard wiffle ball game.

My brothers are my biggest inspirations. They’ve taught me resilience, grit, and the rule about leftovers: don’t let them linger in the fridge if you want a shot at eating them. They’ve shown that no dream is too big if you’re willing to put in the work.

We’ve attended everything from college national championships to professional playoff games, but the real MVPs are my parents.

They set an exceptionally high standard for hard work and character. They’ve instilled in us the belief that true victories happen off the field, when the lights are off and no one’s watching.

While my brothers can’t offer much help with resumes or job applications, one piece of guidance from them has always stuck: they say, “At the end of the day, it’s not what you know, but who you know.”

That wry humor comes from two guys who’ve never touched LinkedIn or written a cover letter. And while their version of networking involves throwing a ball hard, mine means sending roughly 30 LinkedIn messages a day while hunting for a job.

That “who you know” energy is exactly what landed me in Coach Dan McDonnell’s office in 2023, after Will’s Mississippi State coach connected us. Coach McDonnell hooked me up with our content team, where I basically begged to attend every video shoot or event the team hosted.

They probably realized early on that I was in this for the long haul. I’d say it was my persistence, plus the mentorship of my bosses—Sports Information Director Stephen Williams and Multimedia Content Producer Asaad Ali—that brought me to where I am today.

And now that we’re up to speed, I can share the Louisville Baseball 2026 Leadoff Dinner—the official season kickoff and a night to remember.

While boosters focused on speeches, I focused on the outfits.

From Sophomore Collin Mowery’s double-breasted jackets from Italy to Senior Wyatt Danilowicz’s bold belt-and-bison loafer look and an eye-catching tie, I produced a video capturing both the players’ fashion choices and the overall atmosphere.

Watching the team trade jerseys for suits was a vivid reminder that personalities lie beyond the stats.

But the Leadoff Dinner is only the opening act. The main show is approaching, and the Cardinals’ energy in the clubhouse is electric. Mark your calendars for February 13—the home opener is near, and I’ll be right behind the lens to ensure you don’t miss a single moment.
