In a bold move, former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has ignited a debate by demanding a thorough investigation into the eight-year tenure of ex-Governor Nasir El-Rufai. Sani's call for action is a stark reminder of the power dynamics and complexities within Nigerian politics.
But here's where it gets controversial... Sani alleges financial misconduct, abuse of power, and a trail of hardship during El-Rufai's administration. He paints a picture of a state in turmoil, with demolitions, rising insecurity, and policies that burdened ordinary citizens. "Between 2015 and 2023, Kaduna faced unprecedented challenges. The state witnessed demolitions, increased insecurity, and policies that caused suffering. It was one of the most difficult periods in our history," Sani emphasized.

Sani also questions El-Rufai's democratic credentials, claiming that journalists, activists, and community leaders faced arrests and detentions during his rule. He urges security agencies to intensify efforts to find answers in the disappearance of political activist Abubakar Idris, known as Dadiyata.
"We must address unresolved cases like Dadiyata's. Justice and accountability demand it," Sani added.
The senator's remarks come in response to El-Rufai's recent criticism of the current administration during an interview on Arise TV. Sani sees this as political inconsistency, given El-Rufai's active support for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 elections.
"Marketing a candidate as the best option and then attacking the same government is a clear sign of political instability," Sani pointed out.
Sani further argues that El-Rufai's political influence waned before leaving office, citing the ruling party's performance in Kaduna during the last elections. He praises Governor Uba Sani for security improvements and urges residents to support peace initiatives.
As we look ahead to 2027, Sani declares his support for Tinubu and Sani, emphasizing Nigerians' right to choose leaders based on competence, integrity, and commitment to national unity.
However, El-Rufai maintains his innocence, stating that his administration's reforms aimed to enhance governance and fiscal discipline in Kaduna State.
